Lip Service: SoftLips® Conditioning Lip Balm Review & Giveaway

I'm very grateful to my PR Rep Laura, for allowing me the opportunity to review the new SoftLips® limited edition Winter line and the new SoftLips® Organic Pure line. SoftLips® brand conditioning lip balm has really been my salvation. I discovered it out of desperation several years ago when my husband and I were on a cruise to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. I had the misfortune of  falling asleep on a lounge chair on the main deck. It wasn't a terribly hot day, and there was a pleasant, cool breeze, so I thought nothing more of  it.
I woke up several hours later to terribly sun burned and wind chapped lips that were incredibly sensitive. (I never sunburn) I was even more un-happy when I found no relief from 2 or 3 other leading brand name Lip balm products (I'll be polite and refrain from naming names) and was desperate when I came across SoftLips® in the sundries boutique on the ship. So that is where my love affair began because it really works. I used to be a lipstick addict but I love the minimalistic, subtle, soft shimmer and sheen that I get from SoftLips® . I totally love that its a long wearing, smooth glide-on formula and doesn't leave a heavy, waxy , sticky residue on my lips.

My favorite flavors of the SoftLips® Organic Pure line are the peppermint, chai tee, and acai berry. I personally wasn't too fond of the papaya flavor as the scent didn't appeal to me at all, and I have a very apparent disdain for papaya, but that's just me. I am completely smitten with the limited edition Winter flavors which are; SoftLips® Winter Mint, Sugar Cookie, Sugar & Spice, and Sugar Plum Berry.

What is it it?

SoftLips® SPF 20 Conditioning Lip Balm is a premium lip balm that effectively combines light flavors, Lip Protectant and SPF protection with a sheer glossing effect. These premium lip conditioners were designed with skin protecting emollients to help keep lips soft, supple and healthy. The products are perfect for natural lips or for adding protection/moisturizing over or under lipstick. They are available in several flavor varieties and offers great coverage and protection from the environmental elements.
How do you use it?
SoftLips® can be used alone or under/over lipstick as part of one's daily lip care regimenn. It should be applied liberally to the lips as needed, especially if your more prone to the effects of the elements of direct sunlight, wind, or coldness. SoftLips® should be reapplied after eating or drinking and the cap should be replaced immediately after each use.

So what's this stuff made of?
INGREDIENTS:
Active Ingredients:
Dimethicone 2% (Skin protectant), Octinoxate 7. 5% (Sunscreen), Octisalate 3% (Sunscreen), Oxybenzone 3% (Sunscreen).
Inactive Ingredients:
butylated hydroxytoluene, cetyl alcohol, ethylhexyl palmitate, flavor, menthol, myristyl alcohol, myristyl lactate, myristyl laurate, myristyl myristate, ozokerite, squalane, vitamin E, white petrolatum.
None of the ingredients contains animal by products. These all are vegetable derived or synthetically modified.

-The SoftLips® Pure Organic Line of lip conditioners are free of pesticides, harsh chemicals, parabens and Gluten. They are a balanced blend of organic oils, beeswax and shea butter with Vitamin E.

Where can I score some and how much is it gonna set me back?
The complete line of SoftLips® SPF 20 Conditioning Lip Balms are available in mass retail at any of your local supermarkets, pharmacies or other mass retailers like Target and Walmart. The suggested retail price for one 0.07 ounce stick is $2.79, and its approximately $3.99 for the value pack which contains two SoftLips® sticks.
So is there anything special going on--like a promo or giveaway?
Actually, SoftLips® has a "Picture Perfect Lips Search" going on right now. All you need to do is pucker up and upload your pretty pout and get your friends to vote for you.

One Grand Prize Winner will be selected by a panel of judges and will win: $2,500 cash, a one-year supply of Softlips® and the possibility of being represented by a modeling agency in New York City.

Name Your Tune Personalized CD Review & Giveaway

What is it it?
Name Your Tune is an exciting new children's music compilation CD that is made-to-order and personalized for each child. Children will hear their name more than 80 times throughout 14 much-loved, popular childrens songs. Classic favorites such as "Old MacDonald" and  "The Wheels on The Bus" and the "ABC Medley" are included with the clever and seamless insertion of your child's name or names, played over 80 times throughout the CD. There are currently over 3,900 names available on the personalization list, and if you don't see a particular name--you can fill out a form and submit it for inclusion into their next recording/printing session. Your child/childrens name is printed in large, bold lettering across the CD and can include a special message.  Its a great way for kids to enjoy music, have fun, and learn together!
Did you the kids really like it?
We received our own CD personalized with my nephews Nick & Jake's names inscribed on it. I was impressed with the quality and packaging of the CD, it wasn't flimsy or cheap looking like those bootleg DVD's that people should never buy. Instead of "Old MacDonald had a farm..." the lyrics clearly say "Little Nick had a farm, E-I-E-I-O..." Nick is older and at an age where he instantly recognizes his name and was tickled to hear both his name and his baby brother referenced in the songs over and over again. The musical recordings are actually quite pleasant on the ears, and though we've played it about 25 times already--I've managed to still hold onto my sanity and enthusiasm as everyone within earshot joins in on the popular choruses.

Is it any good?
The songs on the CD are performed by two female and two male musicians, including Parent Choice Award winning and Juno award nominated children's performer, Lenny Graf, who all together bring a melodious harmony and upbeat tempo to these childrens' favorites. I am extremely impressed with the quality of the personalization as well. I almost half expected a cheap voice over where the names would be unintelligible and the inflection of the voice speaking the names would be out of range when incorporated into the songs. I was wrong. Our CD incorporated the boys names seamlessly and flawlessly and was instantly recognizable.
So what's the bottom line?

Name Your Tune does a great job in captivating and providing a fun way for kids to get to know their favorite childrens classics with a personalized twist. Interestingly enough, Name Your Tune is the brainchild of Canadian Mompreneur, Candace Alper, who started the business out of her basement with the help from her husband Eric, a music distributor, her friends and family. " I really came to it as a Mom" said Alper in an interview reported in The Toronto Star ,"They were the songs that I used to sing with my daughter, because they were the ones I sang when I was a kid."

Where can I find it?
Name Your Tune CDs are $20.00 each, or $18.00 each when you purchase 2 or more at the same time, available only from the website. They will gladly incorporate multiple names on a Name Your Tune CD. There is no extra cost to have more than one name included throughout our songs. To do this, they alternate songs between the names. When you place your order, simply put the names in the space indicated. The website also has a large selection of other personalized children's products at fairly reasonable prices like; personalized books, paintings, art, placemats and blankets, big belly banks, personalized handcrafted wood toy products, etc.

*Exclusive Discount Code for Multiple Blessings readers*

Use the code blessings to receive $5 off of your order of a personalized Name Your Tune CD. No expiration!

Hear Here
A portion from the sales of Name Your Tune CDs is donated to Hear Here, a non-profit charitable foundation that purchases hearing aids for children. Hear Here is administered through The Hospital For Sick Children.

Thanks to Eric from Name Your Tune , One Multiple Blessings reader will receive a personalized Name Your Tune CD.

Saturday Must Have Moment: Kaskey Kids Football Guys Sports Action Figures Boxed Set Review

HIGH-QUALITY SPORTS ACTION FIGURES THAT ENCOURAGE THE IMAGINARY PLAY OF CHILDREN

Kids have been playing with action figures for years. Sports have been a fundamental part of children’s lives forever. Kaskey Kids’ “Guys” and “Girls” combine both of these interests to inspire countless hours of entertainment.

Children control all the action all the time!

I recently had the opportunity to review the FootBall Guys Sports action figures from Kaskey Kids. First, keep in mind that the  Kaskey Kids Sports Action Figures boxed sets come with instructions explaining each sport and providing photos of various formations, but there are no specific rules or directions. The intent is to allow children to be able to sit down alone or with friends and play the way kids have played for years - using their imagination! That's part of the main design goal, which is to keep children's attention and encourage more creative and imaginary play.

My boys absolutely love this toy. We've had it for a few days now and they are more than enamored with it. I knew that my boys were going to like this anyway, as they like to play with those cheap plastic Army figures that hurt really bad if you step on them in the middle of the night. This toy is a great old fashioned toy with an updated, modern twist that inspires creative play and has kept my boys amused for hours. And they've played with these after school, electively foregoing TV or video games. I wondered if these were still my children because that is impressive. So many toys advertise "hours of fun." This one should smack that label right on the box, because it is probably the most played with toy at my house.

I was also impressed with the fact that these Kaskey Kids Sports Action Figures are much better quality, with better colors, and are very durable. Thank God for the case. Otherwise all of the pieces would be lost by now and its nice as the kids clean this up themselves by throwing everything in the box. They almost always use the "field" which is a  felt mat. Its been amusing to watch them incorrectly score touchdowns with down linemen instead of backs and receivers. They love setting them up and knocking them down, and just being boys.

Each Kaskey Kids Sports Action Figures boxed set comes with 26, two inch plastic Football players, a Referee, two Goal Posts and a 24" x 36" washable felt field. Each case contains two full teams.
There are also several varieties of  Sports Action Figures boxed sets; including Football Guys, College Football Guys (several popular teams available), Baseball Guys, Hockey Guys, Soccer Guys  and Girls, as well as affordable "refill" mini packs of  Baseball Guys and Football Guys.

I wish the box were a little bigger to fit the play mats better, but other than that, I have no complaints. My boys and nephews are already requesting the other sports sets, and I'd much rather buy these toys than spend a ridiculous amount of money this holiday season on techy toys that are expensive, need batteries and will end up broken and neglected in no time. My two girls, aged 11 and 13 have already added the Soccer girls kit to their Christmas list.

Product Features

  • Used by coaches as a training tool
  • Encourages critical thinking skills
  • 2 specified teams in each set
  • Vibrant colors
  • Sparks the imagination
Kaskey Kids Sports Action Figures boxed sets start at approximately $24.99 each and may be purchased directly on the website, at select Learning Express specialty stores across the country, and at Amazon

You can also follow Kaskey Kids on Facebook and even sign up for the Kaskey Kids Newsletter for all of the latest updates and special promotions.

The nice folks at Kaskey Kids have offered my Multiple Blessings readers a 10% discount! Just use the exclusive code: GoGuys when you place your order through the Kaskey Kids website directly.

Putting The Sizzle Back In The Kitchen: Flirty Aprons Review & Giveway

I'm no Rachel Ray, but I enjoy my time in the kitchen and I honestly love to cook. I enjoy it now because I know that my family truly enjoys my cooking. Rewind to 14 years ago and I was like a wet noodle of a mess, my then (first) husband would impishly bounce my biscuits off of the wall, and they'd ruin the sheet rock. Well, we've come a long way baby--and so has the evolution of the chic apron. Let's face it, aprons used to be ugly, and we'd never wear them. And if we did, this is the image we'd have in our heads--remember  these? ▬▬▬►▬▬▬►▬▬▬►▬▬▬►▬▬▬►▬▬▬►
Well, maybe she looks a bit too happy and contrived. Aprons have long been a forward-looking trend in upscale domesticity and down-to-earth values, while at the same time, hearken us back to the romantic aesthetics of 1940s, 1950s and 1960s women. The romantic ideology of the apron reflected a time when life was simpler, families were closer, time was generous, and simple pleasures were not taken for granted. Fast-forwarding to today's overwhelming culture of job demands, travel schedules, and hurried children, quality time spent with loved ones is more important than ever. We love to cook and entertain when blessed with spare moments, and the basic addition of  something wonderful, colorful, simple or extraordinary can make those moments even more meaningful.Who knew that perfecting upon Grandma's famous Bread pudding could be a Kodak moment? Well, if  someone wants to whip out a camera, I'm all for it---at least let me be cute!

When Jamie over at Flirty Aprons allowed me to choose a Flirty Apron style of my choice for this review, I was pretty stoked. I was thinking that aprons were appropiately functional, and I really needed a good, sturdy one that would survive the holiday spatters and spills. I never expected fabulous. First thought as I browsed the Flirty Aprons Website: Wow, aprons that I actually want to wear? I became enthralled by each unique twist and touch, embellishment and hint of whimsy displayed in Flirty Aprons massive apron collection. It was a difficult decision, but I eventually chose the Original Chick Pink Apron, because I am a girly girl. I received the apron in the mail in the same week that I placed the order, like seriously, 2 days time frame. Amazing. Turns out that I really like the Original Chick Pink Apron, I wear it all the time. The first night I used it, Hubs thought I looked great -for him the effect was equivelant to lingerie in the kitchen. While that really wasn't my intent, I admit that I felt great, was able to protect my clothing, able to stuff things in the roomy pockets (I am a serial pocket stuffer--so that's important) and lingered a bit longer in the kitchen. What was I doing? The kids and I baked some cookies, which happen to be Hubs favorite kind. Nevertheless, he feigned shock like it was his birthday.
I have a feeling that Flirty Aprons are about to become the "collectible of collectibles"!! Included here are a broad variety of styles, fabrics, colors and influences, suitable for all ages, shapes, tastes and life styles! I love that they are stylish, fashionable, one size fits-all with extra long ties and scooped sides, and washes well! (I've washed it twice already, thanks to a sauce mishap) and the color didn't fade and the threads are all intact. Tough stuff. I would absolutely it if Flirty Aprons would expand on the product line to include fabric coordinating housecleaning type gloves and kitchen hand towels. Then we'd have cute, all around!

These aprons are adjustable and fit great. If they had more of a backside, I'd wear it as a dress, serious. They are that cute.

Flirty Aprons   has large assortment of chic inspired aprons for women, children (the cutest Mommy & Me styles) and several cool "manly" looking aprons for the guys ("My grill is hotter than yours! ")  They'd make great hostess gifts or anytime gifts for any fun, fearless foodie in your life.

Thanks to Flirty Aprons, one Multiple Blessings reader will receive a Flirty Apron of their choice.

Thursday Must Have Moment: Sleevaa® Review

I've recently had the opportunity to try out a very neat and innovative product called the TheSleevaaTM. I .·**•.♥LOVE♥.•**·.¸ it so much, that I rarely leave home without it. I've already mentioned (in earlier posts) that I am a very temperate person in that I am always too cold. LOL, its not menopause, but rather a congentital and chronic form of anemia that leaves me in the cold, a lot. Mostly when everyone else is sweating. It drives my family absolutely crazy. Crazy is a choice word around here 【ツ】. I mentioned that I love the layered look without the extra bulkiness of actual layers, especially when I am at work or doing things around the house.Usually, my limbs and appendages are the ones to go stark cold first. My husband would be the first to tell you that I can wake him up from a deep sleep because I am as "cold as ice" when I snuggle up to him. (hey, that was a great 80's song)
The Chamelleon by CJNTM brand is inspired by one of nature’s most unique and adaptable creatures, the chameleon. The brand is focused on delivering functional, stylish products to fashion-savvy women and girls. One of their newest fashion forward and funcional accessories is the SleevaaTM

The SleevaaTM is a new accessory offering smart, stylish design that lets you effortlessly change and enhance the look of any outfit. It makes it easy for you to express your mood and attitude and to adapt to your ever-changing surroundings.
The SleevaaTM is four accessories in one making it not only unique but a great value. Its functional as sleeves, a scarf, a sash, or a stylish headband. It’s versatile, light weight and very comfortable. The sleeve functionality stylishly extends the seasonality of your favorite summer tops (like tank tops and tube tops) while providing coverage for the upper arm area. It is also extremely portable making it a perfect accessory for when you are on the go, and it fits perfectly in your purse.

I personally love to wear my  SleevaaTM's under my hospital scrubs. Scrubs are mostly unfashionable, pajama looking uniforms and consist mostly of short sleeved tops and baggy, droopy bottoms. As a post- operative medical surgical Nurse--my 12 hour night shifts extend into 14 hours of Non-stop action on the floor. The SleevaaTM allows me to be comfortable and warm where I need to be (my arms) without the stifling bulkiness of wearing extra layers under my scrubs.Sleevaa TM  are available in full length and 3/4 length sizes, in various styles and colors.
The SleevaaTM comes in two product collections, the Sleevaa® Essentials and the Sleevaa®Flairs.
The Sleevaa TM Essentials is the original Sleevaa TMproduct collection designed to stylishly enhance any outfit. It is perfect for everyday wear.

The SleevaaTM Flairs is the newest collection offering an array of playful and sophisticated styles helping to add a bit of “pizzazz” to any outfit.

The SleevaaTM   is an affordable, versatile and fashionably functional accessory. It is beginning to receive media attention for it's practical versatility and style.  The people at My Mommy Manual are interested in featuring the SleevaaTM  as one of the practical fashion items.  The Art of Living with Marilu Henner television program expressed interest in the SleevaaTM  for next spring.  A senior producer at the Lifetime national network, which airs the show Project Runway is working with Chamelleon by CJNTM at this time to feature the SleevaaTM  in one of their upcoming shows relating to hot fashion items and trends. WOOT!
It would make a great, holiday gift idea for the stylish chic in your life. Better yet...

Eradicate Breast CancerChamelleon by CJN is proud to join in the effort to eradicate breast cancer. From now until the end of the year, we will donate 10% of all online sales to benefit the breast cancer research effort. Let us all join in the fight to find the cure, and to increase awareness of this tragic disease.
Head on over to the Chamelleon by CJNTM brand website and see all the great Sleevaa TM colors and styles for yourself. You may order online easily and effortlessly, or click this link here to see if their is a retailer in your area.

Sweet Nostalgic Classics: Necco® Wafers Review

I recently received an 11oz. bag of the original Necco® Wafers to review with much thanks and fanfare due to TwitterMoms and Schneider Public Relations.

I fondly recall the tasty good times of childhood years gone by, often delivered by these crisp, thin sweet wafers. In case you didn't know, Necco® wafers are lightly flavored colored disks of sugar stamped with the iconic Necco® name.

NECCO®  is the catchy acronym for the New England Confectionery Company, which dates its start back to the summer of 1847. It is the oldest multi-line candy company in the United States. NECCO® ’s new Corporate World Headquarters in Revere, MA, manufactures timeless candy classics such as NECCO® Wafers, Sweethearts® Conversation Hearts,Canada Mints® , Sky Bar®Mary Jane®, Clark®, Mighty Malts®, Haviland® Thin Mints, Candy House® Candy Buttons, and Squirrel Nut Zippers®. Let's not forget for all of you Twilight fans, (yes, I've had them because I Twilight) Sweethearts® Conversation Hearts come in 3 collectible Twilight boxes.

Necco® Wafers is now on Twitter @Necco_Wafers. Follow them to connect, share your favorite Necco® Wafers memories & learn more about the American brand.

It’s Election Day! Fun US Fact: Necco® Wafers were enjoyed by soldiers during the Civil War-they could easily carry them due to their compact size, and they wouldn't melt.

    Iconic Necco®  wafers go all-natural

All Natural Necco® Chocolate Wafers are available in 4 chocolate flavors: milk chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate and mocha!

All Natural Necco® Wafers come in 7 flavors: orange, lemon, chocolate, clove, cinnamon, wintergreen, licorice – what’s your favorite?

Fun Fact: One mini roll of All Natural Necco® Wafers is fat-free and contains only 50 calories. :) All Natural Necco® Wafers are gluten-free and contain NO high fructose corn syrup! - so are the chocolate rolls.

Fun Fact: Approximately 4 billion Necco® Wafers are produced annually by the New England Confectionery Company

Fun Fact: In 1847, the Peppermint Lozenge cutter was invented by Oliver Chase. Mr. Chase teamed up with his brother, Silas Evan to create the Chase Candy Company.

Fun Fact: In 1900, one year before the Chase Candy Co. merged with three other candy companies to become the New England Confectionary Company, the first Motto Candy was invented.

Fun Fact: Necco® Wafers have always been available in different sizes and were a popular penny candy item.

Fun Fact: A staple of the February 14th Valentines holiday is the famous conversation heart created by Necco®. These are those tiny Necco wafers shaped into hearts with small phrases written on each piece.

Fun Fact:  Necco® Conversation Hearts (Sweethearts) these cute Sugar treats cut in the shape of hearts were invented in 1860.

Fun Fact:  Necco® Conversation Hearts (Sweethearts) also come in a sugar-free variation, to delight the hearts of diabetics worldwide.

Fun Fact:  Necco® Conversation Hearts (Sweethearts)  also come in a variety of imprinted sayings in Spanish. Six assorted flavors.

Fun Fact:  Necco® Conversation Hearts (Sweethearts): According to New England Confectionary Company (NECCO), “During peak periods of production, up to one hundred thousand pounds of conversation hearts are made each day at NECCO’s headquarter.” and “if you placed the annual production of Sweethearts Conversation Hearts back to back across the United States, they would stretch from New York to Los Angeles and back again!”

Fun Fact: Necco® is the number one non-chocolate supplier for Valentine's Day Candy.

*I received a bag of the original Necco® Wafers to keep and sample for the purpose of this review , but no monetary compensation. The views and opinions expressed in this post are my own*

I am a follower on twitter.

I had a total of 3,257 entries on this popular $50 giftcard contest. I moderate each comment when readers post them as they are emailed to me after comment is posted. Then, for accuracy and perfect measure I painstakingly went through each entry again to validate them before feeding it to Random.org. Approximately 84 entries were disqualified for not following the stipulated directions. I didn't quite make my blog/twitter following goals, but the results were still significant and very much appreciated. I will be choosing three winners per the stipulations that I set forth at the beginning of the contest . I want to thank everyone for working so hard and really utilizing the extra entries and spreading the word about my blog and these contests. You all worked hard and did a great job! If you didn't win, please don't fret--as I will be running another similar gift card contest in December (in addition to my new reviews and contests that are added weekly) I also have a current $100 Gift Card Giveaway on my other blog, Mommy's Multiple Mayhem.
I need the winners to email me ( Twincere(at)gmail(dot)com ) within 48 hours with their full contact info and gift card preference for immediate processing.

Its Fiesta Time! El Tacodor, The World´s Only Family Taco Night Game Review & Giveaway

As if Taco Night wasn´t the best night of the week already, Old El Paso® is giving it a whole new flare. El Tacodor, the world´s only Family Taco Night Game, is a fun and easy way to keep your family laughing and having fun at the dinner table. Challenge family members to quick fire trivia, wordplay and pantomime, and share a laughter filled night at home.

It´s easy to play the El Tacodor Dinner Game. All you need are Old El Paso® taco fixings and a FREE game-ready El Tacodor Pack which includes instructions, a scorecard and a challenge sheet which you can download at www.ElTacodor.com, for free. Some examples of the challenges include:

    * Crunch Time: Name at least 10 animated movies within 1 minute

    * Meat-N-Greet: Name 5 things that you´d bring home from your favorite vacation place and let the table guess where you traveled

    * Lettuce Play: Act out different animals - no noises! Your partner must guess 3

    * Lime Light: Cheer, "We love tacos, yes we do! We love tacos, how `bout you?"

    * Say Cheese: Pronounce the name of everyone at the table backwards!

    * Toon Time: You and your partner have 1 minute to name at least 10 animated films. Its easier said than done because you can't repeat any of the names of the movies that the other teams have already said.

    * A Taco Is A Taco:  You have to make up a poem about your taco in under a minute. My kids had a great time making up some super silly free-style poems.

And if that wasn´t exciting enough - you can also enter the Old El Paso® El Tacodor Sweepstakes for a chance to win $5,000 just for having fun with your family. Other prizes include monthly giveaways of $300 cash cards, and weekly giveaways of gift certificates for Old El Paso® products for the next five months. When you visit El Tacodor you will also find a link to coupons, a calendar to schedule your next taco night, topping choice chart and more!
You're encouraged to play the game with your family using the scorecard and challenge sheets and then capture some of the memorable moments you are having with photos or videos of your family. You can post your photos and videos on your own blog as well as on the El Tacodor Flickr page or YouTube page for a chance to be featured on a special section of the El Tacodor website. Your photos and videos may also be favorited on the Betty Crocker® Facebook page.

We had a great time with our Family Taco night! It was nothing short of a fun fiesta, which was a little messy but tasty! Hubs and the kids can't wait to do it again and want to make it a weekly activity. I think we can arrange that! 【ツ】

Thanks to Old El Paso® and My Blog Spark, one lucky Multiple Blessings reader will win the fixings for their own El Tacodor family game night.

The powerhouse duo that head the fab Mom apparel company called  LTDchix.com are Nina Frye, former account executive, and Cindi Schmitzer, former CPA and corporate financial analyst. These gals traded in everyday jobs to pursue the challenges of raising children, and found a fun and dedicated way to celebrate the joys and humor of Motherhood by founding LTDchix.com , recently honored as a winner for 2009 in Leading Moms of Business. Here's how they came upon this great business concept:

"Back in the days when being a Mom was still just a dream for many of us, little did we know about the true realities of motherhood.  We didn’t know that along with the beauty and rewards of watching our children grow, we’d also have to contend with the daily mind-numbing tasks that go along with it!  But we’ve got to keep on smiling and persevere!
And that's why we created LTDchix.com. Here's how it all began...
In the summer of 2005, our two families were spending the day together at the beach.  Late that afternoon, as we wrestled to get seven rambunctious kids back into the truck, we both sat back and laughed at the insanity of it all.  Kids were fighting, sand was all over the place, wet bathing suits were soaking into the seats, someone had lost a flip-flop and two boogie boards were sticking out the back window.  We had to laugh…instead of pounding our foreheads into the car until we passed out.
What had happened to that idyllic dream of being the perfect mom with the perfect kids and the perfect life?
We came to a few conclusions that day. First: this was it.  We were Living the Dream.  Being a Mom really is tough sometimes, we’re faced fairly often with some pretty insane and chaotic situations, and WE LOVE IT!  We wouldn’t trade it for the world!
On the way home that night, we started talking about how we got to this point in our lives.  Why hadn't anyone told us?  Did we ever truly understand when we were younger just how much time we’d spend every day doing laundry, carting our kids to activities, cooking, house cleaning and countless other chores in and out of the home?
Back when we were sitting at our orderly desks in our organized workplaces, balancing budgets and spending our paychecks on business suits and happy hour, we had no clue what was in store when we traded in 9-to-5 for 24/7.  We decided then and there that we should come up with a line of T-shirts that relate to all the moms out there – shirts that really express what we all experience on a daily basis.
Whether you’re balancing the full-time jobs of work and home or you’re holding the line on the home front all day – or somewhere in between – we can all relate to the trials and joys of being a Mom.
So we got busy and hired an illustrator, Steven Anderson from Appleton, Wis., who helped us bring our vision to life.  We came up with our slightly sarcastic theme – "Living The Dream" and then created our signature Mom, who is shown on our shirts overwhelmed and in various situations, smiling her way through daily life."

    According to the
LTDchix.com website, Living The dream T-shirts are fun apparel for busy Moms-on-the-go with a slightly sarcastic sense of humor. Every Mom will be able to personally identify with at least one of the trademark Mom illustrations and captions on LTDchix.com shirts, or at least know a Mom who does.
Living the Dream apparel is sold in select locations and online directly from the
    LTDchix.com website.

Thanks to Nina, I received the LTDchix.com Laundry Mom short sleeve T-shirt in the lipstick/light pink color (shown above), which is listed at an affordable $15. The prices for various types of shirts on their website typically range around $10-30, and they often have super sale items at prices too ridiculously low to mention here 【ツ】. The Laundry Mom T- shirt was perfect for me because I love the layered look without the extra bulkiness of actual layers. It fits great and has washed very well, no fading or shrinking at all. To me that is the true test of a quality shirt that I'll have for a long time...what can I say, I love T-shirts--and LTDchix.com has a great variety of colors, various T-shirt styles, and of course--their trademark hilarious designs. I always get at least a dozen compliments on this shirt because anyone who knows me would say that this T-shirt describes my life perfectly, you know, with being a laundress for 9 people and all.

LTDchix.com T-shirts would make an afforable,  fashionable and much appreciated gift for any frazzled, loving Mom that you know.  I was also totally excited to see that LTDchix.com has their very own line of trendy Shopping Mom reusable tote bags  for a low $5! They are available in 4 great colors, and are roomy, sturdy and stylish. I plan on ordering several of these totes and tossing gifts and tissue paper together inside these totes for the coolest gift wrap ever!  Adding eco-friendliness and being ultra-chic, ultra-cute and totally affordable are a few more reasons to check out the Living The Dream line at LTDchix.com.

Thanks to LTDchix.com. , one Multiple Blessings reader will have a chance to win their very own Laundry Mom short sleeved T-shirt in a choice of the Light Blue loose fit T-shirt, or one of  the sherbert/white or the Lipstick/Light pink fitted T-shirts.

Parents, This Is An Eye Opener: Your Child's Visual Health

  1. Parents have an innate knowledge and are naturally attuned to the needs of their children. Its common knowledge to know what your children’s favorite foods are, what shoe size they wear and what cartoons they like to watch. But, how can we as parents know if our children can see correctly? According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), vision disorders are the fourth most common disability among children in the United States, yet many vision problems can take years to detect, making treatment more difficult as vital time passes. In an effort to shed light on some of the more subtle warning signs of vision problems in young children, Diopsys Inc., a developer and marketer of the Enfant® Pediatric VEP Vision Testing System has created an online vision assessment quiz at  www.freevisionquiz.comThe physician reviewed informational quiz, which quite literally only takes a few minutes to complete; is comprised of multiple choice questions covering several areas that can "red flag" signs of a potential vision problem in children of various ages. This includes such actions as the inability to make steady eye contact, or involuntarily covering one eye to see something better. The new quiz does not take  the place of a professional examination by a qualified professional, but is designed for informational purposes and to help create awareness of a common problem that all to often goes unnoticed.

  2. One of the greatest moments when having a child is the first time your newborn daughter or son opens their eyes and makes eye contact with you.It takes several months for your child's vision to develop fully. Knowing the milestones of your baby's vision development (and what you can do to help it along) can insure your child is seeing properly and enjoying his/her world to the fullest.
  3. Diopsys Inc. is a medical instrumentation company that is dedicated to delivering high quality, cost effective preventative health care. They specialize in the development and marketing of patient friendly, non-invasive diagnostic vision testing equipment utilizing Evoked Potential Technology. Diopsys Inc. has developed and markets the patented Enfant® Pediatric VEP Vision Testing System utilized by opthamologists and optometrists to for the early detection, diagnosis and treatment of vision disorders.

  4. Eye-Opening Facts about Amblyopia in Children

♦ More commonly referred to as "lazy eye," amblyopia is decreased vision that results when one (or both) eyes sends a blurry image to the brain, inhibiting development of the vision system.
♦ According to the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, amblyopia is the most common vision problem in children; an estimated 4 out of every 100 children under age six have amblyopia.

♦ Prevent Blindness America says that only 1 in 5 children in the U.S. have a vision test before kindergarten.

♦ More than 3.8 million adults are legally blind or visually incapacitated in at least one eye due to amblyopia that was left untreated.

I encourage you to take a moment and visit www.freevisionquiz.com. I took the quiz in regards to my nephews Nick (aged 3) and Jake (age 1), and was interested enough in the outcome and concerned enough to make an appointment with the pediatrician for Jake, for peace of mind. This is considering that I've had visual problems since birth and both of their parents do, as well.

    Java Junkies Rejoice: Part 3

I was NOT compensated for this post, but I really like  Starbucks®  & thought you might, too*

    I have to admit that my last Starbucks® giveaways continue to be successful  and generates a lot of  caffeine induced fanfare. As promised,  I am going to keep it ongoing on a monthly basis, so long as I am still blessed with the luxury of having a home, a job, and of course internet accessibility to bring you all the latest and greatest. I promise to avoid the debacle from the last Starbucks® contest; in which it went a little something like this;
I enjoy Starbucks® immensely, and maybe a bit too often, ( and I am loving my venti Pumpkin Spice Lattes). Especially when I need to get out of my house and wanna let my kids run loose at our nearby Barnes & Noble, which conveniently has a Starbucks® kiosk. Now that I mention it, 3 of the major local supermarkets that I shop at regularly all have Starbucks® kiosks. Really. So, with a ton of books to read in one arm, and 8 perfect little GC's in hand, I ordered my latte and directed the Barista to load up the GC's accordingly. I distinctly remember her having issues with the barcodes on a few of the giftcards, which she deftly replaced with new ones from the display. No problemo, I thought. That night I addressed the envelopes with GC's tucked inside to each of the winners and included a sappy note or two. Imagine my DOH! moment when 2 readers politely informed me that they received Barnes & Noble GC's instead of their beloved Starbucks®  So, with heartfelt apologies I handled the situation---and if their were any others who got caught up in the confusion, please email me right away so we can rectify this. I don't want to with hold the mesmerizing power of a bonafide caffeine jolt from anyone, seriously. Next time I'll check thoroughly before sealing the envelopes.I Promise!

Once again I am bringing you a chance to win One of Six- $10 gift certificates to Starbucks® (not sponsored by Starbucks® ) so you can enjoy a morning (or afternoon, evening) cup of coffee/Tea/whateva-you-like  and  inhale a pastry on me.

Permission Slips: Every Woman's Guide to Giving Herself a Break; Review & a Giveaway

Sherri Shepherd's  PERMISSION SLIPS: Every Woman's Guide to Giving Herself a Break ( (ISBN 9780446547420)) is a hilarious take on learning lessons from your mistakes. Covering topics such as "It's Jesus or Jail," "Marriage, the Hard Way," "Children: The Gift You Can't Give Back," and "All the Things I Don't Know...And All the Things I Definitely Do," stand-up comedienne, actress, and ABC's The View co-host Sherri Shepherd, comically chronicles her struggles to keep up with the many roles-professional, wife, mother, daughter, and friend-that women must play in today's world. Sherri urges women to pursue their most important dreams and to never give up, but also let's readers know that it's okay to give themselves "permission slips" when things don't always work out the way they want them to.
Sherri takes you through the journey of her childhood, her struggle to pursue her dreams, and even her divorce. At the end of each blurb, Sherri encourages women to give themselves a permission slip when something does not go the way they intended-ie; her addiction to food and her struggles with diabetes.
I wholeheartedly agree with Shepherd's assertion that women generally are too hard on themselves -- expecting too much, stressing too much, not allowing themselves to enjoy life as much as they should. The idea of giving yourself permission to be human, accept yourself, and relax a little is a great concept. Chapters cover such topics as "Doing Everything Wrong," "Permission to Date, Love, Marry, and Divorce the Wrong Guy," "Permission to Pursue Your Dreams," and "Permission to Be Less than Perfect." You get the idea -- Shepherd is telling women that stuff happens, deal with it, clean up the mess, do better next time-and don't forget to laugh about it. I think most women will be able to find and identify themselves in some portion of Shepherd's book. This book had me laughing uncontrollably and obnoxiously at times (enough to wake up the hubs) I thoroughly enjoyed it and I hope you will, too.

Permission Slips is available in hardcover, audio CD and digital eBook format.$24.95-$29.99

    The Giveaway
Five (5) Multiple Blessings readers will win a copy of Permission Slips by Sherri Shepherd

Food For Thought: The Top 10 Worst Restaurant Salads

Everyone loves a top 10 list and many of them provide a good chuckle or two. Here is a more serious top 10 list that instead of a chuckle, may make your gasp. Why? Here are 10 seemingly innocent salads that contain more than 1,000 calories each!

    Number 10

    Romano's Macaroni Grill Chicken Florentine Salad – 1,020 calories/17 grams/2,830 mg sodium

    Number 9

Quiznos Chicken Caesar Flatbread Salad – 1,020 calories/69 grams fat/2,120 mg sodium

    Number 8

Quiznos Roasted Chicken Flatbread Salad with Honey Mustard Dressing – 1,070 calories/71 grams fat/1,770 mg sodium

    Number 7

    Chili's Boneless Buffalo Chicken Salad – 1,070 calories/77 grams fat/4,380 mg sodium

    Number 6

    Chili's Southwestern Cobb Salad – 1,080 calories/71 grams/2,650 mg sodium

    Number 5

Ruby Tuesday's Carolina Chicken Salad – 1,129 calories/71 grams fat

    Number 4

Baja Fresh Charbroiled Steak Tostada Salad – 1,230 calories/63 grams fat/2,380 mg sodium

    Number 3

    Chili's Quesadilla Explosion Salad – 1,390 calories/89 grams fat/2,710 mg sodium

    Number 2

Chevy's Fresh Mex Grilled Fajita Salad made with Chicken, Carnitas, Shrimp or Steak - 1,450-1,620 calories/27-37 grams fat/1,570-2,530 mg sodium

And the Number 1 worst restaurant salad you may be eating is….

Chevy's Fresh Mex Tostada Salad with Chicken, Carnitas or Steak - 1,550-1,720 calories/37-47 grams fat/2,480-3,310 mg sodium

Sometimes you eat at restaurants that do not provide nutrition information for their recipes. You can evaluate how healthy a salad is based on the ingredients it includes to help you make a wise choice.

Be honest – which one of these salads have you had? Are there any on the list that surprised you? Are there others over 1,000 calories that were missed?

Twitter Moms Flippin' for Change Contest: Go Digital Get Digital

Ready to talk “change”?  I Am Enabled is the social media campaign that is the driving force behind  MicroSoft's newly launched FREE beta Healthcare Management Site called  My Health Info. Its a new website for practical consumers like you and I, that incorporates Microsoft's HealthVault profiles into a more comprehensive offering, which includes user friendly tools and widgets to organize individualized, pertinent health information.
I Am Enabled and TwitterMoms is holding its first-ever “Go Digital Get Digital” Blogging Contest. It’s exciting, and it’s a great way to motivate readers and blogger alike to express their feelings about digital healthcare—and possibly win a Pure Digital Flip Camera for their efforts! I Am Enabled and TwitterMoms have teamed up to create an easy blogging contest that centers around two core requirements:
    1. Create a blog post on your own blog that addresses the following 2 questions:

      • “How have digital health records changed how you manage you or your family’s health and/or how do you think they could change how you handle you or your family’s health?
      • “How would you use a Flip Cam to tell your story?”
Keep in mind that the “Go Digital Get Digital” Contest is only open to legal residents of the United States and District of Columbia. You must be 18 years of age or older. The “Go Digital Get Digital” Contest has been extended until October 21, 2009. For complete contest rules, click here.

Creating a comprehensive, Electronic Health Record for every American by 2014 is and has been an important task on our nation's agenda. Electronic Health Record's, or EHRs, have set a precedent in its ability to move current, common documentation and medical files from a predominantly paper file system to a primarily electronic core ambulatory record. What this means is that if your physicians and other medical specialists are using an Electronic Health Record, all of your office visits, treatments and diagnoses will be compiled into a combined, comprehensive Electronic Health Record. This is especially important for people like me and many other Americans with chronic conditions and those who see multiple physicians. This Electronic Health Record differs significantly from another term known as an Electronic Medical Record, or EMRs,  which is simply a computerized, medical record generated at a SINGLE facility or doctor’s office that will exist solely in that doctor’s or facility’s system.

"Now, let’s talk Personal Health Records, or PHRs. According to NAHIT, a PHR is an electronic, cumulative record of health-related information on an individual, drawn from multiple sources that is created, gathered, and managed by an individual. The integrity of the data in the PHR and who you let see that information is up to you, the individual.
In other words, a PHR is a living document that you create and “populate” with your important personal health information, such as immunization records, dates of surgeries, dates of doctor visits, lists of allergies and allergic reactions, and lab test results. Some PHRs, like Microsoft® HealthVault™, which is a FREE service (having a personal health record online and have it readily accessible anywhere you go). It also accepts information from applications and devices that you can use to measure important information at home such as lung capacity (through a peak/flow meter), blood pressure readings, BMI, weight, blood sugar levels, as well as a myriad of other general health stats. This information can then be shared with your health practitioners if desired.
One thing to keep in mind: Patients (that would be you and/or someone you care for) can take information from an EMR (if you are granted access) or an EHR and add it to your PHR. However, most EHRs do not accept patient-generated changes. Meaning, if you want to add information, or correct information, you must go through your practitioner’s office to do so. (Which, by the way, is not a bad idea. You can read up on ePatientDave, who discovered a plethora of mistakes in his electronic medical record.)
So what’s in the future? Ideally, the use of a truly inter-operable file that contains physician data as well as patient-supplied data. When patients can provide information to physicians and document it in one locale, physicians will be armed with more real-time data than ever before and be able to evaluate conditions in ways that can make a profound difference in patient outcomes.
Initialisms aside, EHRs, EMRs, and PHRs spell serious change in how you perceive and approach your family’s health."
    *My personal thoughts and ideas:
As a Mom, wife, blogger, Nurse,friend--I can honestly say that I am excited and it’s about time that technology has afforded us the opportunity to do something about managing and organizing people’s complete health records. I see a promising future that includes this use of social media and the web that will help make doctor visits more pain-free for myself, my family, and many other folks out there.
I think a big step would be the compilation of individual, complete --and when I say complete--I mean life time-- medical records, for everyone--from birth to death. Being able to have a Personal Health Record like My Health Info at my disposal for myself ,my family, and my patients would be beyond priceless. I for one see these specialists on a regular basis; an Internist, a Hematologist, a Cardiologist, a Gynecologist, an Orthopaedist, etc. Though these practitioners are very competent, they don't all communicate with each other. Case in Point: My Internist wouldn't have approved of the NSAID's that the Orthopaedist had prescribed based on the fact that NSAID's are blood thinners and could spell ulcerative trouble for someone already prone to stomach ulcers.etc, etc, etc. This happens to millions of people, errors, fatalities, insurance billing issues are the end result of medical miscommunication. Having portabilty and accessibility with real time, consistent, accurate personal health information is a necessity to prevent mistakes that can have dire consequences.
All too often than not, (and I see it every time when I am at work--caring for my pre and post operative patients) and many other folks are clueless as to the medications, practitioners, and specialists that they see. As a New York transplant myself, I live in a "Military town" which is very transient. Keeping track of validated and current personal health information is essentially crucial for families that are constantly on the go. I feel that people need to be more knowledgeable, involved and empowered about their direct medical care, decisions and medical histories. I think it would be great if integrated Personal Health Records could be encased within a special, encrypted identification card that could be "scanned" or "swiped" much like a credit card at a computer terminal. I think its convenient and useful that the Microsoft® HealthVault™  site allows caregivers to access profiles of multiple family members at one time, and delivers health news based on topics of interest. I know this would be especially useful to me and my family if it were available on mobile devices as well.Having access to the Microsoft® HealthVault™  PHR demonstrates how technology is continuously evolving and adapting to provide consumers with the relevant technological tools that they need to make more informative decisions in support of their health and that of their loved ones.
*I would use a Flip-cam to make a creative production using some form of animation or even claymation. I would chronicle the lives of a young couple as they go about lifestyle and personal health changes that include the birth of their children all they way through their elder years. Throughout the chronology, their would be a few humorous anecdotes and several highlights of the Microsoft® HealthVault™   PHR as it would be relevant and pertinent to each stage of their life.I would be sure to include the facts that demonstrate how Digital Health Records contribute directly to significant improvements in primary care treatment.*

I encourage my loyal Multiple Blessings readers to post any thoughts or questions about this topic, or perhaps consider for yourself..." How have digital health records changed—or could change—how you manage your family’s (or even extended family’s) health?" Please share your thoughts here and perhaps consider entering this " Go Digital Get Digital" contest for yourself, here.
